“Dogs teach us loyalty, trust and unconditional love – let’s honour them with the life they deserve.”
Before becoming our loyal companions, dogs descended from wolves who thrived in the wild by hunting and scavenging animal-based food sources. They are facultative carnivores, which means they prefer and thrive on meat and their diet consisted mainly of raw meat, bones, organs and even fur. Despite domestication, modern dogs retain a digestive system remarkably similar to their wild ancestors.
Canine dentition is suited to tearing flesh rather than grinding vegetation. They also possess a highly acidic stomach environment, which helps break down raw meat and bones and offers protection against harmful bacteria.
