Where Focus Goes Energy Flows

Whatever you give your energy and focus to, this is where you are. Knowing and understanding this can help you make better decisions in relation to what your energy is feeding into and to what you are giving form to. It is one of the most important things to address in relation to your overall well-being and development.

If you spend considerable time thinking about past events, then a part of you is there. If you spend considerable time thinking about future events, either real or imagined (day-dreaming), then a part of you is there.

It is OK to look back and look forward and imagine what may be. In fact, some manifesting techniques require us to see ourselves in the future with what we hope to manifest actually realised. What I am referring to above is when too much of our energy and time is given over to it and when this happens we often lose time and do not know where it has gone. We may also feel not fully present when our thoughts/dreams are put to one side and this is because we can leave a part of ourselves wherever we have been.

When we lose focus like this we lose part of our vitality/essence/power and this affects us in the present moment and has the potential to continually affect us in future moments – if we allow the status quo to remain.

Projecting our thoughts (which are energies) into somewhere other than the ‘now’ affects our auras too e.g.:

  • an aura stretching out in front of someone indicates they are not grounded in the ‘now’ and projecting in the future, likewise
  • an aura stretching behind someone indicates they are not grounded in the ‘now’ and projecting into past events

Energies can, and in many instances do affect us from the most unlikely of sources so it is important we manage what we allow into our personal space.

When we recognise what is truly good for us energetically we know it by how it makes us feel and likewise, when the opposite happens, our body will often indicate to us something is not right and we need to do something about it.

Wasting Energy

Wasting and giving away our energy and focus to things and people that are not in our best interests is not good for us. It can lead us to:

  • an impasse, where we are often unaware we are not moving forward because we are locked into the habits and choices we continue to make
  • we want to advance and move forward but:
    • it is very difficult because we have not recognised it is our own behaviours holding us back or
    • we half-realise this but not enough to make us change things
  • actually move backwards in areas of our life which we may notice quite quickly as we recognise old patterns again

Energetic Self-Care

We have a duty of self-care to ourselves to know what our energies are feeding into and therefore what our time is being spent on. We can do this by cultivating discernment and questioning if the things we do and focus on are actually good for us or are we just wasting our vitality and giving it to meaningless things. Discernment in turn, will lead us to make better choices for ourselves.

Good discernment is knowing what is false and knowing what is true; knowing what is healthy and what is harmful; knowing what supports and what diminishes.

Let come what comes.  Let go what goes.  Then see what remains.”
