The First Law of Thermodynamics

According to the First Law of Thermodynamics, energy cannot be created or destroyed, it can only change its form.  The life force within us that fuels thought, breath, and being, does not simply end when the physical body dies, instead it undergoes a sacred transformation.  Our physical form may disperse into nature, our former actions and words may linger in memory or inspire anew, and our energy and consciousness continues to flow and grow.

Death, then, is not an ending but a continuation in another form, unseen yet still profoundly present.

Death and How it Manifests in Our Life

We experience death in countless forms throughout our lives and learn many things through our connection with it yet often, only attribute death to the end of a life especially when it is family, a friend or a beloved animal companion. Some of the other deaths we may encounter are:

  • the end of relationships – separation, divorce, friendships, work colleagues
  • the end of a job we loved or the end of our career – retiring, being laid off/made redundant, sacked, business closes down or is taken over with job losses
  • the end of a way of life – loss of finances, possessions, security, home, business
  • emigrating – feeling the loss of one’s home country, culture, family, friends, special places
  • human displacement through conflicts or war
  • loss of good health – through accident, illness or aging
  • loss of the countryside – trees, fields, wildlife etc through development
  • loss of clean, healthy seas and shorelines – through pollution, turbines
  • national, international and global events – wars, plagues, despots, cruel political régimes, organisation and secret agendas that do not serve humankind or the planet

Some deaths we may be relieved and even glad they have happened so an ending can occur but others can be traumatic and open us up to heartfelt, raw pain and emotion.

The death of a loved one can be a terrible shock even when it is anticipated following the prognosis of a chronic or terminal health condition. Death moves us into a place of profound numbness and inner awareness at the same time. It opens up spaces inside us that we never knew existed and which, for some, are overwhelming and frightening.

Our Ancestors in the long ago, knew Death as part of a Soul’s onward journey but for many in the western world today, this wisdom has been overshadowed by controlling teachings and indoctrination making people fearful and disconnect from this knowing.

We are Not Born to be Afraid of Death

We are born to know Death as a friend and embrace it.

When our time comes to leave this physical form and transition we do not need to fear. We have walked through Death’s doorways and done this journey many times before as have those we love who have gone before us in this lifetime and who will be waiting to greet us when our time arrives.

Our Soul holds great wisdom in this regard and we can re-awaken and re-connect with this wisdom if we seek it out.

Let come what comes.  Let go what goes.  Then see what remains.”
